Song Fu with Jubilee Jews!

As another creative outlet A.J. and I will be participating in Song Fu as Jubilee Jews. We wrote and recorded our song for this weeks challenge. The challenge was to chose one of the 700 mole men and molemanic women that John Hodgeman created in his book More Information Than You Require. We chose #487 Lady Anotonia Oddpolyps, the tolerant wife of #486 a former war hero and is now a drunkard. The voting will start tomorrow and there will be a listening party tonight. 39 contestants have signed up but the numbers may narrow down by tomorrow.

Thing-a-week #7 - Live on

Lyrics:

Bright lights glow on an empty stage

But we don't take up half the room that we should

I don't rush but I stare in disapproval

and I bow

I knew that you were there

in the corner of my eye I say you glance

I saw you stare in amazement

and I rush

How long has it been

How long has it been

Time and time again

You are gone for several days

And I stay here feeling strange

and I know

That you

will still

Live on

You will still

Live on

How long has it been

How long has it been

How long has it been

How long has it been

How long has it been

How long has it been

Thing-a-week #6 - A cover!

I am still working on a song for this week so to keep all 7 of my followers entertained I am posting a cover. That late song really threw me off so I should be back on track if I can post this new one soon. So here is an Elliot Smith cover. It's called Between the Bars and it's on his 1997 release Either/Or. The video quality is crappy because the audio wouldn't work if the file was any larger.

Thing-a-week #5

I'm trying to quiet because it was 1 in the morning when I recorded it so you may not understand what I'm singing.

Lyrics:

we sang songs of love

the songs weren't ever enough

we were always above

those who couldn't love

almost always were you standing there

almost always were my eyes on you

You stayed for so long

You were dancing and singing to all our songs

but I knew so much less

Your songs were always the best

very rarely did my eyes leave yours

almost always I could her your voice

we sang songs of love x4

Darn procrastination...

I forgot to write a new song for this blog. I spent the whole weekend trying to write a simple, catchy, pop tune for you all to hear but no. I have failed you. To make up for this mistake I tried to pull together a quick cover of a Bob Dylan song (in memory of what an awesome concert he put on last night!) but yet again, I have failed you. Is there anyway I can make up for this horrific happening?
I will do my best to present to you a cover and a new song either tonight or tomorrow night. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Musical?

The other night I went to see Alice in Wonderland at the Landers Theatre. The show was probably the biggest show I have ever seen at the Landers. Every song was a show-stopper with 60+ people on stage at a time. It made me wonder...
Could I write a musical?
Springfield has a very lively Performing Arts scene. There are 3 theaters downtown (not including the Skinny Improv) and each of them are regularly showcases the talents of Springfield. It wouldn't be unheard of for a local musician to write a musical in this town. It may be unheard for a twelve-year-old to write a full blown musical and have it performed in front of a real audience. I thought of a few ways to perform it:
  • Live Web Stream
  • Film it and show it at locally owned movie theater the Moxie
  • Traditional Performance
  • Put together a band to play the music and have the band perform with the actors
  • Or even performing it on the street downtown
The traditional performance would be the least favored option. I would like it to be something new that hasn't ever been done in Springfield, MO. I stole the live web stream idea from Amanda Palmer and the band performing with the actors from The Decemberists (even though they never really performed like that). I still haven't a clue as to what it would be about but a imagine a fairly bizarre story. Any ideas?
